As part of the ATAA Book Club’s second-term opening read, we delved into Melisa Kesmez’s book, which was awarded the 2019 Sait Faik Story Prize. Nohut Oda is a collection of five stories that can be read in one sitting. The stories touch on themes of departures, those who stay behind, inevitable separations, family relationships—in essence, many aspects of human experience. Yet, at the end of each story, there was always a glimmer of hope, which we all deeply appreciated. We were delighted to get acquainted with Melisa Kesmez and her stories.
Our reading journey continues. For our November meeting, we will gather to discuss Zeynep Kaçar’s novel, Kabuk.
