The organization was first founded on October 29, 2008, as a small Turkish-American Social Club with the main goal of observing national holidays, celebrating special occasions and promoting a better understanding of Turkiye and Turkish people in the USA. In 2023, the Austin Turkish American Association was formed and registered as a non-profit entity in Texas. In 2024, it was registered with IRS as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, non-profit organization.
The acronym ATAA-AUSTIN is consistent with the philosophy of the association members adhering to the teachings of the founder of modern Turkiye, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (also referred to as ATA, meaning “father” in Turkish).
